Introducing Our Instructors
We believe that quality training begins with quality instructors. Our instructors have a variety of backgrounds and life experiences, which add value to our client’s experience.
Parabellum Firearms and Range is extremely proud of our cadre of world-class instructors. All of our Senior Instructor staff have trained extensively at renowned training academies and hold multiple instructor certifications from organizations including the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA).
We are also proud of our staff instructors who currently teach our Level 1 Classes, Gun Cleaning for Beginning, Gun Safety, Concealed Carry Seminar, Introduction to Firearms, and NRA Basic Pistol courses. These courses have been designed to provide the highest quality information in a safe and welcoming environment and serve as the doorway to all of our more advanced classes.
All of our instructors can shoot accurately. And they know how to teach, share knowledge, are safety aware at all times, and are personable and approachable for questions. The instructors strive to understand each student’s needs and answer specific questions.
All staff instructors are certified with at least an NRA instructor certification and are dedicated to providing excellence in firearms education.
Any instructor teaching above a Level I Introduction course holds at least one additional certification from a nationally recognized organization such as Rangemaster, NRA or USCCA.
Some instructors are further state qualified for various state certifications including Illinois State Police certification for the Illinois Concealed Carry Permits and by the State of Utah for the Utah Concealed Firearms Permit.
These instructors have decades of experience in all aspects of firearms training. Many are Police officers, SWAT Team training officers, and military veterans. Others compete in IPSIC, IDPA, and other events.
All instructors carry professional liability insurance.
Our instructors have the experience and knowledge to teach you how to develop the shooting skills to make you a better shooter.
They can also teach you when to shoot and when not to shoot. This knowledge will keep you from making a mistake that could change your life forever.
Parabellum Instructors
William "Joe" Sellmer
Owner, Parabellum Firearms
Chief Firearms/Academy Instructor
About Joe
People have asked how we came up with the idea to open a range. The truth is, it was my wife’s idea.
I have shot all my life, even having an FFL from 1981 thru 1996 during which time I was shooting competitively quite a lot. I had always said that I wanted to have a small gun shop once I retired. What changed all that is all the current interest in guns.
